Mt. Blue Sky (Evans) Ascent is on the Calendar

Coming up in June, Intermountain Repeater Group will once again be providing communications support for the Mt. Evans Ascent. Our coordinator is Ryan — KØCTR. Ryan will be reaching out later this year for volunteers, so if that’s your thing, put June 23rd on your calendar.

Carmen Kreutzer – N0OCL, Silent Key

With heavy hearts, we report the news that Carmen Kreutzer – N0OCL, wife of Bob Kreutzer – KE0SJ, passed away on April 27th, 2023. Carmen was a long-time supporter of Intermountain Repeater Group, as a club officer, and a helper for Bob, our club President.

Carmen survived 5 and one-half years of treatment for multiple myeloma, and was admitted to hospice care on Saturday, April 22nd.

We will all greatly miss Carmen, and offer heartfelt condolences to her husband Bob – KE0SJ.

“God has chosen to give her relief today. God bless Carmen.”

Services for Carmen will be held at the Olinger Highland facility, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, on Thursday, May 4th: viewing is from 2-3 PM, with the service following at 3-4 PM.

Colorado Section On-air Net to Begin Jan 9th

Colorado’s new ARRL Section Manager, Amanda Alden – K1DDN, will be holding a monthly on-air net Monday evenings at 7:30, using the Fun Machine radio network. Amanda writes:

As section manager I desire to have a better connection to ARRL members and non-members in the Colorado section. I visit as many in person events as time allows and also make myself available for attending virtual meetings (i.e. Zoom). This “net” will hopefully be a place that Colorado hams can ask questions of ARRL leadership, request help, guidance, club support and technical support. This can also be a place where Colorado hams can ask why is the ARRL important and why should I join?

The Fun Machine network is accessible using: FM, Allstar, Echolink, DMR, D-Star, NXDN, M17, and YSF.

WB0THS – Roger Owens, SK

Our dear friend and a founding member of the Intermountain Repeater Group and the Empire Radio Club, Roger Owens, WB0THS, passed away on Friday, July 15,2022.

Roger was a very active amateur radio operator until the past year or so when Alzheimer’s disease caught up to him. Roger was a strong advocate of the American Red Cross and actively participated as a Red Cross Communicator.

We had many club meetings held at his Westminster United Methodist Church. He was a custodian and very involved in his church activities, especially with the food bank. He and Jean attended many “Lunch Bunch” gatherings.

Roger was a very active member of IRG and helped in all club activities, like the 65Roses bike
races and the Mt Evans Assent race. Field day was always a special event for him. We will miss Roger for sure.

God bless Roger and Jean.

Roger Dale Owens; August 13, 1942 – July 15, 2022

Memorial Service will be Saturday, August 13, 2022, 10:30am at Westminster United Methodist Church, 3585 West 76th Avenue, Westminster.

Mt Evans Ascent June 26th

It’s that time again — Intermountain Repeater Group will be providing race communication for the Mt. Evans Ascent on Sunday, June 26th, 2022.

As usual, we’ll be using our portable repeater at the summit for radio traffic, with simplex and relay as a backup. The repeater frequency is 146.835 MHz, -600, with 100 Hz tone. If there are any difficulties using the repeater, 146.445 will be the backup simplex frequency.

Billy Anderson – KIØFV is our volunteer coordinator for this event.

We’re looking for a couple more volunteers to assist this year. You’ll need a mobile rig or amplifier, as the wattage from an HT is not sufficient for good comms. We recommend a minimum capability of 20W. Due to the addition of a “round trip” stage, the start time for the event will be 5:30 AM, and radio operators should be at their assigned stations by that time.

If you’d like to volunteer to work this event, please let us know, using our contact form.
